National Occupational Therapy Month

April is National Occupational Therapy Month. The theme for 2013 is Living Life To Its Fullest.
Occupational Therapists (OTR) and Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA) assist their clients in
participating in things they want and need to do in their everyday environments. For children, the
focus is helping them participate fully in school and social situations and/or recover from injury that
may hinder their participation. Occupational Therapists who work with children are knowledgeable
about stages of development and the appropriate milestones in a child’s physical, mental and behavioral
development. Specifically, OT’s and COTA’s address a child’s visual, fine motor, and self-help abilities.

At Talk and Play Associates, LLC, Occupational Therapy services are provided by Heather Cross, OTR,
and Lisa Ingram, COTA. Heather has 20 years’ experience working with adults and pediatrics and
specializes in working with children with learning disabilities, sensory and auditory processing disorders,
Autism, ADD/ADHD, and developmental delays. Lisa was a preschool teacher prior to becoming a COTA.
She has a strong skill set in working with children and creating a fun environment in which they can
learn.
